THE HISTORY

Sweet Pea is 1968 Charles Whitholz design Trawler Tug Design. This was one of the first 40-ft designs built at Rice marine Railway in Reedville, VA on the Chesapeake Bay.  She is all original down to the family connection of two of the builders.

IN THE FAMILY

Suzy, AKA “The Boatress”, Smith is the proud owner and granddaughter of one of the builders. So, the family connection is in the boat’s DNA. There are three left we know of. But, Whitholz designs are very popular designs on the Bay.

THE RESTORATION

Over the past three years she, the boat, not the “Boatress”, has been lovingly brought back to her original state. Sweet Pea has a refastened bottom and rebuilt Perkins, and is serviced in Reedville, VA. Her sisters are a 1937 Chris-Craft Special Racer Named Stinky and a 1948 25 Chris-Craft Sportsman named WECATCHEM.
