EXTREMELY RARE
Mountain Lyon is a 1932, 28-foot Sea-Lyon triple cockpit runabout. This extremely rare boat was found about 25 years ago in a boat warehouse near Clayton, NY. It was in a state of decay often described as a “gray hulk”.
THE RESTORATION
The project was a total keel up restoration done over a period of 10 years in my garage, finally completed in 2005. I went to a lot of trouble to save as much of the original wood as possible, but much of it was either rotted or cracked. What I replaced was done to match the original Honduras mahogany.
In 2015, I had the boat refinished with new stain and varnish and polishing the stainless-steel parts to freshen up the appearance after 10 summers of use on Lake Tahoe.
THE EXCEEDINGLY RARE ENGINE
The engine in Mountain Lyon is a Lycoming V12, 325HP, which was offered by Sea-Lyon as the top of the line engine for this boat. This is exceedingly rare and one of the most awesome of all the vintage marine engines.
