THE HISTORY

“Marigold” was built in 1968 at the Stockton facility of Charlie and George Besotes at the request of Dr. and Mrs. Brandon Bassett. If not the first, it was one of the very early all fiberglass Besotes from their new 17’ mold. Besotes agreed to mold a 17-footer, cut it in half, and mold an additional two feet into the hull. This was to accommodate the 427 cubic inch Chevrolet engine that the Bassetts wanted. It also enhanced the seating utility of the craft. Charlie and George Besotes delivered “Marigold” to the Bassett Family in the summer of 1969, staying as houseguests for a week while they worked out kinks and fine-tuned the boat. “Marigold” has never touched water other than Lake Tahoe, and has served the Bassett Family as their primary ski boat and cocktail cruise boat for 52 consecutive summers at Lake Tahoe. Although always kept in impeccable condition, heartfelt and special thanks go to Tony Brown at “Western Runabouts” for his skillful and loving rehabilitation of “Marigold” over two winters, earning “Marigold” consecutive “1st Place in Class” in the 2018 and 2019 Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance.
