An original Tahoe yacht, the H.M.S. Pinafore was custom-ordered by Stan Goode in 1961. She was delivered on the railroad tracks from the (then) Chris-Craft Dealership (currently Jakes on the Lake) to the boat house, which was built especially for her at Tahoe City Marina. She still resides in the Tahoe City Marina.
Stan, also a Tahoe City Yacht Club Commodore, ordered the “luxury” model with gold trim, special stern lights, and custom blue accents. The mahogany interior, was ordered in “Celeron” antiqued finish, decorated for the era with chandeliers, and with avocado velour upholstery.
Stan had her for only a short time, until he died, and his brother sold to Bill Morris about 1970. Bill had shown interest in the boat, and Stan had noticed the excellent care Bill took of his previous boat. Bill and his wife, Marilyn, came up every summer weekend from Reno and entertained a lot. They were known to take people out including Englebert Humperdink, Jim Nabors, and others. Supposedly it was filmed in the Godfather II, but that segment was cut. They enjoyed the boat until they passed away.
Kim Stearns and Gehren Thelen purchased H.M.S. Pinafore in 2006. We feel fortunate that the Morris family chose us to take care of her. See a few more pictures at www.hmspinafore.net. People we see all over Lake Tahoe have shared more history and told their stories about seeing or riding on the HMS Pinafore. If you have a story to add, please contact email@example.com.
